It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of David “Dave” Patrick Galleo, a cherished soul whose life was defined by service, dedication, and unwavering loyalty. Dave passed away unexpectedly in Wilmington, North Carolina, on November 12, 2025, leaving behind a grieving family, friends, and a community deeply touched by his presence.
Born on February 28, 1968, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Dave’s life was one of remarkable commitment and achievement. After graduating from Northwood High School in 1986, he served in the United States Air Force before earning a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He later transferred into the United States Marine Corps, where he served with distinction in the 2d Recon Battalion, 2d Force Recon Company, and Marine Special Operations Command. His numerous combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan earned him the respect and admiration of all who served alongside him. Dave’s devotion to his mission, his teammates, and the Marine Corps was unwavering, and his impact on the reconnaissance and special operations communities will be felt for generations.

After retiring from active duty in 2011, Dave continued his service as a civilian instructor at the Marine Raider Training Center, where he mentored and prepared future generations of Marine Raiders. His dedication, wisdom, and guidance shaped countless lives, leaving a lasting legacy that extends far beyond the classroom. Dave’s quiet professionalism, sense of humor, and steadfast loyalty made him a revered mentor and friend.
Dave is survived by his loving wife, Andrea; his daughter, Taylor; stepsons Tyler and James Owens; grandson Kaden Owens; his brothers Mike and Tommy; and his sister Susan. He is preceded in death by his sister, Linda. He will be remembered not only for his exceptional service but for his deep love of family, his devotion to his community, and the positive impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
A Requiem Mass, preceded by a brief viewing, will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton Grove, NC, with burial immediately following. A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 1:00 PM at The Back Yard Tavern in Sneads Ferry, North Carolina, where friends, family, and teammates will honor his remarkable legacy.
Dave Patrick Galleo’s life was one of honor, courage, and service. He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and eternally cherished by all who knew him. May his memory continue to inspire, and may his family and community find comfort and strength in the enduring impact of his life.
